There was a really good turnout from BRC on Tuesday 4th August at the MORPETH 10K, with 42 of the 356 finishers wearing green and white. Conditions were not good for running with the weather very warm and humid. Martin Gaughan was 2nd M/50 and Joe Frazer was 2nd M/60, with Terry McCabe 3rd M/60. Leanne Herron was 9th female. Last Wednesday,(12th August), 4 members competed in the Newcastle Exhibition Park 5k midweek road race. Gareth, Iain, Helen and Suzanne raced on a warm, humid, windy evening. Gareth finished in 93rd position, his time- 19.55, Iain (slowly coming back to form) was next in -21.49, Helen 21.50, and Suzi 22.25. Helen and Suzi were 3rd and 2nd respectively in their age groups. There were 288 finishers.

Paul Whalley was victorious at the BLYTH LINKS 10K on Tuesday 1st September. The cool, wet conditions suited Paul down to the ground resulting in his personal best being improved by over a minute to 33.13 on the fast mostly flat course between Blyth and Seaton Sluice. Paul was followed in by Robby in 5th place in 36.16, then Peter in 6th place in 36.18. Martin was first Blyth vet to finish and was presented with the Brian Stringfellow Memorial Trophy. Leanne Herron was first Blyth lady to finish in 61st position in 42.31. There were 214 finishers. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the night a big success.

Over 30 Blyth members took part in the TYNEDALE 10 MILE road race in cool, wet conditions on Sunday 6th September. Paul Whalley was first to finish for the club in 9th place in a PB time of 56.34. Next home was Peter Brown (28) getting under the hour for the first time in 59.43, followed by Robby (35) in 1.00.32. Joe was 2nd M/60, Cath 2nd F/50 and Dawn 3rd F/35. The hot weather which greeted runners at the BERLIN MARATHON on Sunday 20th Sept. suited Gary Jones down to the ground as he knocked 3 minutes off his marathon PB. Going through half way in 1.19.50 and feeling great where he expected 'to hit the wall', Gary ran the second half in 1.19.01 to record 2.38 51 at the finish. Next stop New York in 6 weeks time.

Blyth had complete teams in both the Ladies 4 stage and Mens 6 stage at the NORTHERN RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS held at Leeds Met Carnegie on Saturday 26th Sept. The ladies finished in 34th place, with Helen Morris running 20.49, Julie 22.58, Lisa 24.23 and Leanne 19.39. The men finished 73rd team with Robby running 20.40, Dave Bradley 25.19Paul 20.22, Ralph 25.52, Adam 22.05 and Craig also 22.05.

Craig Birch has been voted North East Young Volunteer of the Year 2009, following in the steps of Victoria Mallon who was young volunteer in 07. No doubt Craig will be presented with a suitable award at a slap up do in the near future. Well done Craig.

13 teams took part in the BRC AUTUMN RELAYS, held in good conditions at the Riverside Business Park in Blyth. The winning team comprised Richard Shillinglaw (7th on leg 1), Graeme Stewart (5th on the 2nd leg), and Adam Smith. Leanne Herron had a great run producing a new female course record of 14.33 for the 2.3 mile course. Paul Whalley was the fastest male on the night recording 12.01. Junior girls and boys, together with senior men and women turned out for the first NEHL event of the cross country season - THE SHERMAN CUP AND DAVISON SHIELD - held in atrocious wet windy conditions at Temple Park, South Shields on Saturday 25th October.The U/15 boys did really well finishing 2nd team, with Kalvin 7th, Chris Lillico 16th and Scott Povey 17th. In the U/13 girls race Charlotte Ramsey finished 10th. The Senior Women finished 7th team with Susanne 20th, Helen M 23rd, Helen B 34th. Julie was 54th, Angie 58, Joanne 67 and Alison 76th. The Senior Men were 26th team with Robby 40th, Craig 76th, Graeme 148, Kevin 182, Keith 204 and Terry H 227.

The first WINTER SERIES event on Wed. 4th November saw a record turnout of 63 to run in prfect conditions. Scott Povey was the first race winner, with The Hare and the Tortoises being the best team on the night. Paul Whalley and Leanne Herron ran the fastest times. Thanks to Gloria, Dickie, Sandra, Steve, Martin, Dave for helping out. Great handicapping again .
